The department of Plant Protection was established in 2008 to prepare professionals in the field to meet the need of the Kurdistan Region. It is supported by the University and the Regional Government of Kurdistan. It plays a major role in educational and research programs. 

A group of well-qualified academic and support staff carries out the various activities and research of the department. The department consists of two main branches: Entomology and Plant Pathology.
