Academic Excellence: Dr. Moyaser Khalil Ibrahim Achieves Remarkable Research Milestone
The College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences, University of Duhok, is proud to announce a significant scientific achievement by Dr. Moyaser Khalil Ibrahim, a distinguished faculty member. Within a single year, Dr. Ibrahim has successfully published three high-impact research papers in the prestigious international journal, Journal of Molecular Structure (ScienceDirect/Elsevier).
This accomplishment highlights the University of Duhok's high academic standards and its commitment to advancing global scientific knowledge. The Journal of Molecular Structure is a highly reputable Q2-ranked platform indexed in Scopus and Web of Science, boasting an Impact Factor of 4.7 and a CiteScore of 8.0.
Groundbreaking Research on Molecular Synthesis
The latest study, titled “Medium-controlled regioselectivity in the synthesis of ortho/para azo-hydroxybenzaldehyde isomers: Structural assignment by spectroscopy and DFT validation,” was completed in successful collaboration with Prof. Dr. Shireen R. Mohammed from the Department of Chemistry at the University of Zakho.
The research provides innovative insights into chemical synthesis, specifically focusing on how the nature of an aqueous basic medium affects reaction selectivity. A key finding of the study was the remarkable 98% para-selectivity achieved using a specific mixture of sodium hydroxide and sodium carbonate. The research effectively combines advanced experimental techniques—such as FTIR and NMR—with sophisticated computational modeling (DFT, GIAO, and TD-DFT) to validate molecular structures, stability, and spectral behavior.
Global Impact and Institutional Growth
Aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being), this research contributes to the broader scientific understanding of molecular behaviors essential for various chemical and pharmaceutical applications.
Publishing three papers in such a high-tier journal within less than twelve months is a rare milestone that underscores Dr. Ibrahim’s dedication and the College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences' role in elevating the university’s international ranking and scientific standing.
