University of Duhok Concludes Series of Workshops on Agricultural Challenges in Amadiya District

Between November 1 and December 11, 2025, the University of Duhok, in collaboration with the Agriculture Extension Unit, conducted a comprehensive series of national workshops titled "Agriculture Issues Facing Farmers in Amadiya District." The initiative consisted of seven individual workshops held across various sub-districts, including Bamerni, Sarsank, Chemanki, and Deraluk, to engage directly with local farming communities.

The workshops were designed to bridge the gap between academic expertise and practical farming by facilitating in-depth discussions with 18 model farmers and various agricultural stakeholders. The primary objective was to identify the most pressing hurdles to productivity and sustainability in the region. Key issues addressed included the adverse impacts of climate change, soil degradation due to intensive farming, limited access to high-quality resources, market pricing instabilities, and the management of pests and diseases.

Throughout the sessions, agricultural experts provided scientific insights and practical solutions, such as the adoption of climate-resilient crops, sustainable soil conservation techniques, and integrated pest management strategies. In addition to the discussions, the team conducted extensive field surveys in each sub-district to gather first-hand data on local conditions.

The workshop series concluded with the development of strategic action plans and actionable recommendations. These plans aimed to empower farmers with modern techniques, improve their access to markets, and enhance the overall economic viability of the agricultural sector in the Amadiya District. Through this initiative, the University of Duhok reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the region’s economy and fostering sustainable agricultural development.
