Healthy soils for healthy cities
On December 7, 2025, the Department of Soil and Water at the College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences organized a national workshop titled "Healthy Soils for Healthy Cities." Held in the Agricultural Extension and Rural Development Hall, the event was convened to celebrate World Soil Day.
The workshop highlighted the critical importance of soil as a threatened resource essential for 95% of food production, climate regulation, and water purification. Presenters and attendees discussed the increasing degradation of soils caused by human activities such as deforestation and pollution. The primary objectives of the session were to raise awareness regarding soil health in urban areas, promote policies to protect urban soils, and encourage sustainable practices like urban agriculture and composting. The event successfully engaged students, scientists, farmers, and city leaders in a unified effort to support soil conservation.
