Innovations in Plant Tissue Culture: Techniques, Applications, and Opportunities for Sustainable Agriculture
Dates: October 21–23, 2025
Location: College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences
The College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences successfully held a three-day workshop titled “Innovations in Plant Tissue Culture: Techniques, Applications, and Opportunities for Sustainable Agriculture” from October 21–23, 2025. The workshop was sponsored by the Agrarian Environment and Agriculture Organization (AEAO) and aimed to strengthen local expertise in plant biotechnology through both theoretical and practical training.
Participants, including faculty members, postgraduate students, and researchers, received intensive instruction on the fundamentals of plant tissue culture, aseptic techniques, culture media formulation, and explant preparation. Laboratory sessions provided hands-on experience in sterilization, inoculation, and culture maintenance, while discussions focused on applications in clonal propagation, plant conservation, and crop improvement.
The workshop also highlighted opportunities for academic entrepreneurship, encouraging participants to link research outcomes with practical agricultural solutions.
The event was presented by Dr. Laylan H. Fadladeen (Forestry Department), Dr. Rafail S. Toma (Horticulture Department), and Mrs. Lolav Salim Sulaiman (Forestry Department). The organizing committee, chaired by Dr. Rafail S. Toma, included Dr. Laylan H. Fadladeen, Mrs. Lolav Salim Sulaiman, Mrs. Media A. Mohemmad Rasheed, Miss. Dereen J. Mustafa, Mrs. Bayan H. Ahmad, and Mr. Bilnd J. H. Hambi.
The College expressed its appreciation to AEAO for their valuable sponsorship and continued support of sustainable agricultural education and research.
