Seminar Evaluates Car Parking Standards in Local Residential Complexes

On May 20, 2026, the Department of Basic Science at the College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences hosted a seminar titled "Suitable Car Parking Number for Residential Complexes." The session was presented by Mr. Abdullah Murad Taher in the Seminar Hall of the Department of Basic Science.

The seminar focused on the critical issue of parking space requirements within vertical residential developments. The study compared field survey data from three specific housing complexes (identified as X1, X2, and X3) against both Iraqi national standards and international housing benchmarks. The primary objectives were to evaluate current compliance levels, identify shortages, and propose strategic planning recommendations.

The findings presented by Mr. Taher revealed that while complexes X1 and X2 generally adhered to the Iraqi standard of one parking space per housing unit, complex X3 suffered from a significant shortage. Furthermore, the evaluation showed that when measured against the more stringent Urban Housing Standards Manual (2010), all three complexes failed to fully comply with the required parking standards.

The seminar concluded by highlighting the vital importance of accurate parking planning in urban development. Mr. Taher emphasized that addressing these shortages is essential for reducing traffic congestion and improving the overall quality of urban living for residents in Kurdistan.
