Training Course at IHE Delft Institute for Water Education
Participation of Assist. Prof. Dr. Zeravan Arif Abdullah in a course at IHE Delft Institute for Water Education- Delft, The Netherlands. The course held from 8th to 20 July 2024 with a focus on microcomputer tools (WEAP) for integrated water resources planning.
He added ‘The main reasons that motivated me to pursue the course (water resources planning under the changing climate and environment) are to satisfy me with new techniques and strategies used nowadays to overcome the water scarcity problem and to save and treat water in scientific ways. Climate change become a worldwide issue, water use has increased sixfold over the past century and it is courteously rising. Climate change is projected to aggravate the situation in countries that are already under "water stress," as well as cause similar issues in less severely affected areas, as a result of the frequency and intensity of extreme events like storms, floods, and droughts.
The course included discussions about Water Evaluation and Planning (WEAP) for integrated water resources planning while it provides a comprehensive, flexible, and user-friendly framework for policy analysis. The tool could be useful by cooperating with other majors relevant to water to find suitable and sustainable solutions for the water shortage problem in the Kurdistan region.
As the head of the Soil and Water Department at CAES, I am eagerly looking forward to sharing the experience that I have brought with the students and academic staff of UoD.’
