Outline Academic Biography

Hello! I am Dr Marwan Basheer Ismail Govay, an Assistant. Professor and passionate educator specialising in Soil and water Sciences. Currently, I am delighted to serve as a lecturer at the University of Duhok, notably within the College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences, Soil Department, in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. Allow me to take you on a tour through my academic life and objectives.

Overview

My academic journey commenced in 2005 when I joined the Soil and Water Sciences Department at Duhok University as a research assistant. Over the years, I diligently pursued higher education, earning my M.Sc. degree in 2012 and my PhD in 2023, both from the University of Duhok. In 2012, I assumed the role of department reporter at the same department, where I served until 2016. In February 2023, I proudly accepted the position of Vice Dean of Agricultural Engineering Sciences at the University of Duhok.

With over fourteen years of teaching experience, I am dedicated to imparting knowledge in various agricultural subjects to my students. I find immense fulfilment in guiding aspiring scholars through their academic journeys. Additionally, I mentor students in executing soil projects and assist postgraduate students in data collection and analysis via SPSS and GIS.

Teaching Responsibilities

  • Courses taught: Soil and water Conservation, Hydrology, GIS for Soil Studies, Watershed management, and remote sensing (Under- and Postgraduates).
  • Practical field and laboratory supervision
  • Student advising and supervision of graduation projects
  • Teaching philosophy: promoting scientific thinking, field-based learning, and problem-solving skills
